Panasonic Gobi Drivers For Mac

  1. Panasonic Gobi Drivers For Mac Pro

A generic driver and software connection manager You shouldn't need a specific device driver for the Gobi 2000, but you may have trouble finding a generic connection manager. They are not called Toughbooks for nothing, support for use outside the US is indeed 'tough'. None the less, you should be able to connect using AT commands to the WWAN card. Its not something I have ever needed to do except when trouble shooting, so its not top of mind information for me, but there are multiple descriptions about using AT commands to connect to Australian 3G ISPs elsewhere in the Wireless ISP forum here. I don't have any direct expereince with a Gobi 2000 card, but it does have the right band coverage for Next G. I can confirm that the Sierra Wireless WWAN card based on the Gobi 3000 does work fine with Next G. Anyone reading this should check out, it would appear the connection managers supplied by ISP's will load optimised firmware to the modems for use on their networks.

This must be why the ISP's won't support all modems, and connecting using generic means can be unreliable. PROPOSED SOLUTION: Toughbooks sold in Australia do not come with GOBI2000 as Telstra do not support this device. Autocad for mac download. They will either have a Novatel EU870D or a Sierra MC8700 modem.

Mac

The drivers and Telstra connection manager for these can be downloaded from the Panasonic Australia website. At the time of writing this EU870D modems can be purchased for $40 delivered on ebay. I will replace the GOBI2000 with an EU870D and install the package provided by Panasonic Australia and let you know if this works. The software from Panasonic Australia is not specially for Panasonic, for instance the MC8700 has a Telstra connection manager package: I believe this is the same package as downloadable from the Panasonic website. Installed the EU870D into the same slot the GOBI 2000 came from. When computer was switched on and windows XP booted up I got the add new hardware wizard, as expected.

I canceled this and then installed the 'Mobilink' software downloaded from panasonic toughbook australia which is supposed to be used with an EU870D. Alas, for some reason the drivers do not work with this modem, perhaps they are locked to a panasonic special version or something? So anyone reading this take heed, save your money and don't get an EU870D modem as you end up in an even worse position than with your GOBI (at least the GOBI has hardware drivers).

I tried installing the HP connection manager however this is somehow locked to only install on some HP systems (GOBI 2000 modem). I tried the same for a DELL connection manager (for EU870D modem) and had exactly the same problem! I happen to own a DELL desktop machine so I tried installing on that however it detected that it wasn't a supported DELL system (it must be locked to the specific laptops that use the modem).

So once again i've hit a brick wall. It would appear this whole WAN modem thing is a real trap!

So back to the point of this whole exercise, getting connected to NEXTG with a connection manager (practically AT commands don't appear to be the average persons cup of tea, including me). I can only see two options left: 1) Sierra MC8700 modem: The reason why I went with the EU870D (it did appear to have a valid driver at the time) was becuase it was cheap ($40 AUD posted). The MC8700 is $195 AUD from M2M connectivity. I think this could have a high chance of success, becuase M2M are a mobilty partner with Telstra and this modem is covered. You can download the drivers and connection manager for this modem from M2M, it has nothing to do with computer manufacturers. I guess you could use other products from them, e.g.

MC8705 which superceeds the MC8700 becuase of this. The only thing I'm not sure about is the base board these modems plug into (that carry the sim card etc), does anyone know if these are universally compatible with all modems? 2) Telstra supplied usb dongle: Will work, but defeats the whole idea of having a built in modem! I have toiled for too long with this trying to get two different modems working with nextG. It turns out the Gobi2000 needs activating and is locked down to the originally included Panasonic software (for a few US service providers only). I was recently able to get the drivers and a connection manager for the cheap E870D.

Unfortunately this combination still did not work. Furthermore while there is a connection manager that WILL work with the next G network for the E870D, it wont work with my E870D which is locked to a Toshiba version of Mobilink! If you have purchased a computer with a modem that is not directly supported by Telstra, while it IS POSSIBLE to get it to work on the network you are likely to waist some serious time in that pursuit, and perhaps not achieve connection (as in my case).

This is at least my experience. I strongly recommend in these circumstances you contact a Telstra mobility partner, such as M2M connectivity. You can purchase modems that have been verified with Telstra and come with all the drivers and a dedicated Telstra connection manager. A new modem, the MC8705 which has not been discussed in this thread can be purchased for $147 from M2M and will work out of the box.

Hey guys, I am having the same problem as rstuarts2000 did. I have a Panasonic CF-U1 from the US, and it has a Qualcomm HS-USB WWAN modem in it (Vendor ID 04DA, Product ID 250C).

In Windows Xp Device Manager this device has a big yellow question mark, showing I do not have the driver installed. I have spent a few days trzing to get the driver to no avail.

Can anyone help me where I can find the driver to be able use the modem? Also tried the HP version of Qualcomm driver, it doesn't work. Cheers, halamar.
